What is insemination (IUI)?

IUI means intrauterine insemination (insemination inside the uterus). This fertility treatment is considered the most simple, mild, and non-invasive method, as IUI is performed in your natural menstrual cycle with no need for hormones or other fertility medication.

IUI treatment is particularly suitable and effective if the treatment is carried out on healthy women with a regular menstrual cycle. The procedure must be carried out at the time of the month where you are most fertile which is close to the time of the ovulation.

During the insemination process, the purified sperm cells are introduced through your cervix directly into the uterus with a thin sterile catheter. Pregnancy then takes place naturally when the sperm fertilises an egg, and the fertilised egg attaches to the lining of your uterus.

Before the treatment, we purify the sperm. This washes away the dead and weak sperm cells, leaving only the healthy sperm cells with good motility in the sperm sample. At the same time, the IUI procedure itself also optimises the chances of fertilisation by significantly shortening the sperm cell’s path to the egg cell.
