Social Freezing
Information on Freezing of Unfertilised Eggs
Social freezing allows you to consider your fertility at a time in life when your eggs typically have the best quality. The treatment involves retrieving your eggs after a short course of hormone stimulation and freezing them, so they can be stored for several years.
For many, social freezing is about peace of mind and flexibility – a way to preserve the possibility of pregnancy later in life if you are not ready to have children right now, but would like to keep that option open for the future.

Book consult for freeBefore we can freeze your unfertilised eggs (oocytes), you will undergo hormone stimulation. This involves daily injections for approximately 10–12 days to mature several eggs at the same time.
During this period, we monitor you with ultrasound scans to assess how the hormone stimulation is progressing.
Once the eggs are ready, the egg retrieval is scheduled. The eggs are collected during a short procedure performed vaginally under local anaesthesia.
The mature eggs are then frozen and stored safely at very low temperatures until you may wish to use them at a later time.
According to Danish legislation, unfertilised eggs may be stored until the woman reaches the age of 46.
Unfortunately, social freezing does not guarantee that you will be able to achieve pregnancy later in life, as unfertilised eggs have a higher risk of not surviving the thawing process.
We therefore recommend undergoing 1–3 egg retrievals to secure the highest possible number of unfertilised eggs for freezing.
Multiple egg retrievals make it possible to freeze more unfertilised eggs, which helps increase your chances of achieving pregnancy later in life, as there will always be some loss during thawing and fertilisation of the eggs.
The number of eggs retrieved and matured for freezing depends, among other factors, on your age, as egg quality declines over time.
If you are considering freezing your unfertilised eggs, we therefore recommend not waiting too long.
