Receipt of Oocytes from Other Tissue Centres

Everything you need to know.

Send your oocytes to Diers Fertility Clinic

If you have had your eggs frozen at another clinic, we can receive them at our clinic for fertilisation, provided certain requirements are met.

The clinic where your eggs are stored must be EU tissue–approved and authorised to ship gametes.

It is therefore a good idea to clarify, already before your initial consultation with us, whether the clinic meets these requirements.

As a general rule, eggs that have been frozen and stored outside the EU cannot be accepted.

How quickly can oocytes be transported?

As a first step, you must book an initial consultation with us if you wish to undergo IVF treatment at Diers IVF.

After the consultation, you will receive a contract that must be signed, as well as an invoice for your treatment, which must be paid.

Once we have received the signed contract and payment, the clinic where your eggs are stored must contact our laboratory to plan the next steps. Communication between laboratories and the transport process should be expected to take time.

It may take up to approximately two months from contract signature until the eggs are received at our clinic.

Fertilisation of Received Oocytes

When we receive your frozen eggs, they will be thawed and fertilised using ICSI, a method in which a single sperm cell is injected directly into each egg. This type of fertilisation is necessary when working with frozen, unfertilised eggs.

The eggs are thawed in smaller batches, typically 6–8 eggs at a time. Unfortunately, there will always be some loss, as not all eggs survive the thawing process and not all eggs will be fertilised.

It is therefore not possible in advance to determine how many eggs are required to achieve a blastocyst.

Embryo Transfer

As a general rule, embryo transfer is planned in a subsequent frozen cycle. This provides the best conditions for both embryo development and optimal timing.

We will always inform you thoroughly about your options, chances of success, and the uncertainties associated with thawing and fertilising frozen eggs, so that you can make informed decisions.

If you have any questions regarding the transport of oocytes, you are always welcome to contact our IVF department.
