Insemination for lesbian and transgender couples

At Diers Klinik, we cherish the opportunity to empower two women to embark on the journey of parenthood together via lesbian insemination treatment (IUI).

We can proudly say that we were the pioneers in introducing IUI fertility treatment for lesbians in Denmark, paving the way for same-sex couples to fulfil their dreams of becoming parents.

Our commitment to providing lesbian insemination as fertility specialists is unwavering, and we have seen countless couples walk through our doors with hope in their hearts and leave with a future full of promise.

Our very foundation in 2006 was rooted in the commitment to assist same-sex women in their pursuit of parenthood through lesbian insemination treatment. We warmly embrace the LGBTQ+ community and celebrate the increasing presence of rainbow families.

To us, it is very important and life-affirming to help and support the many family forms that exist. We believe that love and family should know no bounds, and our mission is to facilitate this through our services.

Clinic founder and owner Liza Diers fought for lesbian insemination

Clinic founder, Liza Diers, herself experienced discrimination when she and her female partner had a wish to have children through intrauterine insemination with donor sperm. This personal encounter with prejudice fuelled her determination to create a safe space for same-sex couples wishing to start a family.

Discriminatory laws at the time did not allow doctors at fertility clinics in Denmark to treat lesbian couples with artificial insemination. However, the laws did not apply to midwives.

So, Liza, who is a midwife, chose to take matters into her own hands. That was the starting point for Diers Klinik, where Liza started offering intrauterine insemination to all women in 2006.

Today, the laws on lesbian insemination in Denmark have become very liberal. This also applies to the wide choice of open and closed sperm donors available in Denmark.

Unfortunately, this is not the case in several of our European neighbour countries. So, we welcome lesbian and transgender couples who travel to the clinic for artificial insemination treatment from all over Europe. We are committed to serving couples facing fertility challenges, regardless of location.

Two women can have a baby with lesbian insemination

Liza and her female partner wanted to have children themselves, and they had decided that they would do so with the help of a sperm donor. By opening Diers Klinik, Liza could offer lesbian insemination for both herself and her partner.

They both received artificial insemination at the clinic, and today they are the proud parents of three beautiful donor children. You can read more about Liza’s story in this blog post.

Insemination in your natural cycle – lesbian and transgender couples are not patients

Fortunately, it is becoming easier today for same-sex female couples to have their pregnancy wish fulfilled, also via lesbian insemination supported by national health systems in many countries.

However, discrimination still occurs, and we still help many lesbian couples build a family here at Diers Klinik. We believe in treating our clients as individuals, not patients, and we strive to provide a comfortable and welcoming environment for everyone who walks through our doors.

In recent years we have also welcomed a growing number of transgender couples. Read Steffi and Jonas’ story about receiving IUI treatment and their journey to becoming parents as a transgender couple. We are proud to be a part of their journey and to contribute to the growing visibility and acceptance of transgender parents.

At Diers Klinik, we take pride in treating you with lesbian insemination in your natural cycle.

Some national health systems pressure lesbian couples into IVF-treatment, which is a much more invasive form of fertility treatment.

However, most women do not have any medical history which suggests they cannot achieve pregnancy naturally. This is why we strongly believe that these women and couples should have the opportunity to get pregnant as naturally as possible through lesbian insemination. So, we do not consider same-sex women and transgender couples to be patients. We see them as individuals who dream of starting a family, and we are here to make that dream a reality.

  • Our clinic is not just a medical facility, but a nurturing environment filled with warmth and understanding. We ensure that every couple feels comfortable, respected, and supported throughout their journey.
  • Our team is not just medical professionals, but compassionate individuals who genuinely care about your dream of becoming parents.

The lesbian insemination treatment (IUI)

The lesbian insemination is essentially an artificial insemination procedure where we place the washed donor sperm through the cervix and into the uterus as close to the egg as possible.

By tracking your ovulation, we identify the time of the month when you are most fertile, and the procedure is most likely to be successful. The lesbian insemination is similar to a gynaecological exam or a pap smear test, and most women feel no pain during the process.

Our medical team is highly skilled and experienced, ensuring that the lesbian insemination is as comfortable and stress-free as possible. We understand that this is a significant event in your life, and we do everything we can to make it a positive experience.

During the donor sperm insemination, we use a speculum to view your cervix. A thin, flexible catheter is then gently moved through your cervix and into the uterus cavity, where we place the sperm.

This process is designed to mimic the natural fertilisation process as closely as possible, increasing the chances of a successful pregnancy.

The fertilisation happens naturally when the sperm cell reaches the egg cell.

Our doors are always open for you

The clinic is open 365 days a year, and you can come for lesbian insemination treatment every day.

This allows us to perform the artificial insemination at the time that is exactly right for your body.

So, there will be no need for harsh fertility drugs to trigger your ovulation. We are specialists in the IUI field. We perform many IUI treatments in the clinic every week.

Over the years, we have constantly been adjusting and fine-tuning our natural treatment method. And our hard work pays off. Just take a look at our success rates.

Today, we are the fertility clinic in Denmark with the highest number of IUI fertility treatments per year. Our success rates speak for themselves, as we are one of the top clinics in Denmark.

The wall in our clinic covered with photos of some of the beautiful babies, we have helped to this world, brings a smile to our faces every day.

Each photo represents a dream come true, a family formed, and a life changed forever. We are immensely proud of the work we do and the impact we have on people’s lives.

Lesbian insemination – when natural methods are not enough

At our fertility clinic, we can help most lesbian and transgender couples seeking fertility treatment using our natural lesbian insemination method.

However, there are cases where additional support may be needed, such as mild stimulation, egg donation, or IVF/ICSI.

Here at Diers Klinik, we provide some of these options, while our sister clinic, Diers IVF, specialises in other treatments. Our team works closely with our colleagues at Diers IVF to ensure our clients receive the best possible care. Plus, the fact that Diers IVF is located in the same building means their expertise is just a short trip up the stairs.
