Treatment with partner sperm

If you and your partner unsuccessfully have tried to achieve pregnancy at home, we would gladly help you increase your chances with insemination treatment.

You can start treatment at Diers Klinik right away. We have no waiting list, and we do not require that you have tried to become pregnant for a certain period before you can start treatment with us.

You will also be able to keep your place on any national health service waiting list in your home country while you get treatment at Diers Klinik.

Sperm analysis

We recommend that the male has a sperm analysis done before we start the treatment.

In a sperm analysis, the laboratory analyse the quality of the sperm by measuring the volume and assessing it under the microscope. Here you, among other things, examine the number and movement of the sperm cells. This allows us to better assess if insemination treatment with partner sperm is the right type of fertility treatment for you, or if other options will suit you better.

We can do the sperm analysis at the clinic laboratory, possibly in connection with the consultation, or you can contact your own doctor.

Consultation and preparation

If you wish to start an insemination treatment course with us, we welcome you both to a personal consultation either here at the clinic, over the phone, or on a video call. You can book an appointment here on our website.

During the consultation, we will discuss exactly how you prepare, and when you can come for treatment. Furthermore, we guide you thoroughly on how to find the time of ovulation. We recommend you read our guidance material on ovulation tests in advance.

Before starting treatment, both of you must have carried out the following statutory blood tests:

  • HIV (Anti-HIV 1+2)
  • Hepatitis B (HBs Ag and Anti-HBc)
  • Hepatitis C (Anti-HCV Ab)

Sperm purification and insemination

The treatment will begin with an ultrasound scan. In that way we will ensure that the time is exactly right.

The male partner then collects the sperm for the insemination. If the male partner is not able to be here on the day of treatment, we can freeze and preserve his sperm in advance for later use.

We wash the sperm and remove all the dead sperm cells and seminal fluid so that only the good and fast sperm cells are left.

With the help of a soft catheter, we will then place the sperm cells in the woman’s uterus. In that way, we increase the chances of pregnancy as the sperm cells do not have to swim the long way through the cervix.
