What is GeneMatch, and is it necessary?
GeneMatch is a genetic matching test that compares your genetic profile with the donor’s to determine whether you are both carriers of the same recessive genetic condition.
GeneMatch screens for more than 400 recessive conditions. If both genetic parents are carriers of the same recessive condition, there is a 25% risk that the child will inherit the condition.
GeneMatch is not a requirement for treatment, but we recommend it, as it can further reduce the risk of genetic conditions and provide additional reassurance.
However, the test cannot rule out all genetic or other medical conditions.
