The egg donor choice is yours

We know that selecting a donor is a key step in your parenthood journey. To support you, we provide access to a large database of detailed donor profiles.

As one of the few clinics in Denmark, we offer exclusive profiles with childhood photos and handwritten letters.

You can browse profiles at home, taking your time to get a good sense of each donor.

We want to ensure you feel confident by making a well-informed and thoughtful choice.

Finding an egg donor is a personal decision

Preferences and priorities when choosing an egg donor can vary greatly from person to person. This is completely natural, as everyone is unique, and there is no right or wrong choice.

Take the time to reflect on the factors that truly matter to you when making your decision.

Take a systematic approach

We have a large selection of egg donors who have provided a wide range of information about themselves in their donor profiles. With so much information, it’s easy to lose track.

We therefore suggest that you take a systematic approach to finding an egg donor:

  1. Select 2-3 of the selection factors (see list) that are most important in your donor choice,
  2. Use our filtering functions etc. to narrow down the field of possible egg donors that fulfil your most important factors,
  3. Use the ‘available for new donation now’ feature, as there may be a waiting time for the others,
  4. Once you have narrowed down the selection: Review the available information on each donor and read their donor profiles,
  5. Finally, choose the 6-8 egg donors that feel most right for you.

List of selection factors

For inspiration, below are examples of factors and considerations you can make when finding an egg donor.

Do you want your child to have the option to contact the donor when they turn 18? Learn more about the difference between anonymous (closed/non-contactable) egg donors and non-anonymous (open/contactable) egg donors.

If you want the egg donor to look like you or your partner, height, eye colour, hair colour, ethnicity, etc. are important factors.

Pay particular attention to the fact that the stated hair colour can cover many different shades. For example, the hair colour dark blonde and the colours light brown and brown are very close to each other. Many donors were blonde as children, but their hair has darkened with age. For some donors, the sun bleaches their hair in summer, while it is much darker in winter. Be careful not to cut off a potentially good match just because you are only sorting on one specific hair colour. Feel free to ask us for advice.

We have found that many of our patients place a lot of emphasis on childhood photos when selecting an egg donor. However, those of us who know the donors often notice that some wonderful donors are overlooked simply because their childhood photos might be unclear or taken from an unflattering angle.

In our experience, focusing too much on a cute childhood photo might lead you to miss out on a donor who could be a better match for you.

Our advice is to place less importance on childhood photos. This approach can also help you avoid unnecessary time on a waiting list.

The egg donor’s education, profession, and career aspirations can be highly significant for some individuals.

The donor’s personality traits and hobbies can be important for some. For example, it may matter to those who value a match in shared interests or skills they are passionate about. Or, if you are an introverted personality type, you might prefer the donor to share that trait.

Throughout the donor programme, our staff get very close to the egg donors. For most egg donors, our egg donor coordinator has written a short description of what she thinks is particularly characterising and unique about the donor in question. If your favourite donor doesn’t have a staff impression, please contact us.

For many, it’s crucial not to wait too long to begin egg donation treatment, especially for women in older age groups.

In our donor database, you can filter for donors who are ‘available for new donation now’. Additionally, we can often offer egg donors with little to no waiting time who may not be listed in the database.

If you need to get started quickly, feel free to contact us to learn more about the current options available.

Why select more egg donors?

We recommend that you find 6-8 potential egg donors, as unforeseen circumstances may arise during the donation process.

In Denmark, egg banking is not permitted, meaning the donor’s process only begins once a specific recipient has been identified. Therefore, it’s important to understand that when you opt for egg donation treatment, you are not purchasing a “ready-made product.” Donors are volunteers who lead normal lives, which can lead to delays or changes along the way.

Examples of unforeseen circumstances:

  • The donor’s menstrual cycle may be irregular,
  • The donor may need to observe quarantine after travelling to avoid health risks,
  • Health conditions, such as the discovery of a cyst, may delay donation,
  • Donors can donate a maximum of 6 times and some may prefer longer breaks between donations,
  • Certain donors may have waiting lists due to high demand.

If you are flexible and prepared to switch donor on short notice, the risk of disappointment during the process is significantly reduced.

FAQ about egg donors

Yes, you will get access to the donor profile database where you can choose a donor that matches your needs and wishes. We will also be happy to help you find an egg donor if you have specific wishes.

Egg donor profiles contain details such as height, weight, hair and eye colour, education/job, hobbies, personality, family history, childhood photos and in some cases a handwritten letter from the donor. This provides a comprehensive insight into the donor’s background, personality and interests.

The egg donor’s cycle can be irregular, which can delay the donation process. The clinic will adjust the course of treatment to account for such situations, but you should be prepared for this to prolong the process. Alternatively, you can choose another donor from your favourite list who is ready to donate immediately.

If an egg donor is unable to donate due to health or other reasons, the clinic can help find a new egg donor from the database. This is one of the reasons why we recommend you to select multiple donors.

“Staff impression” refers to the staff’s assessment of the donor, often based on interviews and observations when meeting her in the clinic. It can give you an idea of the donor’s personality, special characteristics and how she is perceived by others.

We can offer egg donor treatment without a general waiting period. However, delays may occur for certain donors, particularly those in high demand or if you have specific preferences. To reduce waiting times, consider choosing donors listed as “available for new donation now” in the database.

Yes, we would love to help you match an egg donor with your physical features and wishes. You can also choose a donor yourself from the database, where detailed profiles with information such as hair colour, eye colour and height are available.

As unforeseen circumstances can arise, it is recommended to select 6-8 potential donors. Circumstances such as donor health, travelling or waiting list may affect the schedule.

Yes, with us you can access childhood photos of the egg donors and sometimes handwritten letters. This can help you get a better impression of the donor.

The staff at the clinic have extensive experience in donor selection and know the donors well. We can help you navigate the donor profiles and find a match that fulfils your wishes. If you send us some photos of yourself, we would be happy to help you find an egg donor with facial features similar to yours.
